Get to Know Seth

Hi there neighbor, and pleased to meet you! Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’ve lived the vast majority of my childhood in sunny Southern California just North of Los Angeles in a little desert town called Rosamond. My hometown was near Edwards Air Force Base, which meant that my parents, siblings, and I were no strangers to the sonic booms of aircraft being tested and that our family forged many friendships with the proud service members of our community. Similar to many people, my family struggled during the Great Recession that began in 2006. In that turbulent time my father lost his job, which necessitated that my family move to the East Coast to receive support from our relatives.

It was in Pennsylvania where I finished my last years of high school and became eligible to cast my first vote. I remember my first voting experience well: it was the 2008 Primary for the Presidential Election, and I was excited. The country was on the precipice of positive change, of more equitable policies, of more sustainable energies, and of more affordable college and healthcare. I was filled with hope as I voted in both the primary and following presidential elections. It was that first democratic experience that proved to me just how much my vote and my efforts mattered. Just 2 short years after my first vote, I completed my Associate’s of Architecture at Northampton Community College and set my sights on moving back to California; back to my home.

Since my return to California, I have called Lemon Grove home. In that time, I enrolled at the NewSchool of Architecture and Design, where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Architecture having a concentration in urban planning, and I have worked for the last 9 years as a professional in the field of architecture. I currently manage projects for an architecture and planning firm. In addition, I actively support my community to be a part of the change inspired by my first vote. I have volunteered as an intern with the Lemon Grove Community Development Department. I was a social media coordinator for the Lemon Grove Relay for Life. I assist with the monthly Lemon Grove Food Distribution. I join with my church to support other activities in the Lemon Grove community. And, more officially, I was appointed to the Lemon Grove Planning Commission 5 years ago and am currently the commission chairperson.

As part of the Lemon Grove Planning Commission, I have been a consistent proponent of sensibly designed communities, higher sidewalk standards, and bike lane expansion while prioritizing public health and saftey in those considerations. Now, I believe that it is time to take my service to our community to the next level. If elected, I will be a Councilperson who supports funding to repair and maintain city infrastructure, who advocates for well treated and properly compensated city staff, who champions policies that advance our climate goals, and – as I have done during my time as part of the Lemon Grove Planning Commission – help continue to bring affordable housing to our city!
